Advanced Services for SEA market at PowerGen Asia 2008

Alstom participated in the PowerGen Asia 2008 Exhibition & Conference held in Kuala Lumpur from 21 – 23 October 2008. To promote brand presence in the South-East Asia Power market and to capture the attention of an operational audience. The online remote monitoring centre of Alstom Power Service Monitoring & Diagnostics Group (MDG) generated strong interest from both existing and potential customers who visited the Exhibition.

Alstom MDG’s live demonstrations on generator vibration monitor and rotor flux, had viewers amazed when they saw the internet live power generator data from a customer plant located in China. Many remarked that the remote centre has cleverly combined complex plots, powerful monitoring modules and fast data updates, which also enables our diagnostic experts to work collaboratively all over the world. These modern features would significantly improve plant and machinery management besides meeting customers’ needs in the progressive information era.

The exhibition saw a good turnout of Malaysian customers and associates who visited the Exhibition. Pok Sen Meng, Sales Manager of Power Service Malaysia, whose team supported the booth rota said, “It is good to have live demonstrations and exhibits as they not only reflect Alstom’s advanced technologies but also make good conversational topics within the customer community besides promoting sales opportunities.”   

POWER-GEN Asia is a major South-East Asia event dedicated to power generation and transmission & distribution market and industries. According to PowerGen Asia organizers, this year’s event attracted more than 150 exhibitors and 5,250 visitors from over 50 countries making POWER-GEN Asia 2008 the biggest in its 16 years of history.

ALSTOM Strongwish attended The 3rd Annual Conference of National Wind Power Technical Association

On 25th and 26th June, ALSTOM Strongwish participated in “The 3rd Annual Conference of National Wind Power Technical Association", held in Beijing Exhibition Hall. Hongwu Zhang, Sales manage introduced ALSTOM Strongwish’s Wind Turbines Remote Online Condition Monitoring and Analysis Technology. S8200, ALSTOM Strongwish’s Wind Turbines Online Condition Monitoring and Analysis System, is an online condition system, which aims at wind turbine’s special working condition and features of bearing & gearbox. This system could early discover potential failure of gear and bearing through monitoring unit’s key vibration parameter, meanwhile, RMD8000’s strong remote function could help wind power plant’s equipment administrative staff conveniently control unit’s operation condition through network.

This conference was held by China Electricity Council, and the 5th Asia Wind Power Conference and International Wind Power Equipment Exhibition were held concurrently. The representatives on this conference were leaders of Power Group, experts and scholars of wind power field, leaders and professional technical personnel of wind power enterprises, representatives of Scientific Research Institution, Planning & Designing Institute and Universities etc.

S8200 gained strong R&D and technical support, based on ALSTOM Strongwish’s rich experience on online condition monitoring. At present, S8200 has been applied in wind power plant and wind generator manufacturer. The technical features were successfully showed to professionals of wind power generators on this conference. It’s believed that more wind turbines’s operation data will be used for wind power technology and promote new energy technology, with the wide application of S8200 system.

2008 Working Conference of Shaangu Remote Monitoring Center was held in Shenzhen

On 31st May, 2008, a special seminar was held by Shaanxi Blower (Group) Co., Ltd., Xi’an Jiaotong University and ALSTOM Strongwish (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.. This conference was not only based on the development of Shaangu Remote Monitoring & Fault Diagnosis Center in 2008, but also on the further development of Shaangu service economy. The major leaders and relevant people of these three parties (16 persons in total) participated into this conference.

The representatives on the conference totally considered that three parties achieved great improvement in respective field and gained new comprehension in service economy field since the establishment of Shaangu Rotating Machinery Remote Online Monitoring & Diagnosis in 2006. This conference was helpful for learning from each other’s advantage and establishing more scientific and long-term development direction for this Center.

Three parties gave opinions on follow-up development and cooperation. It is encouraged to take part in VCAT training for improving diagnostic skills. Regards to further technology development on monitoring and diagnostic system, it should better accord with operation features of Shaangu units. On the aspect of monitoring system, control system and service economy, more work should be done deeply and thoroughly.

It is the first successful example developed by manufacturer, University and professional company for remote monitoring and research activities. Since its establishment, it made effective monitoring and diagnostic service for petrochemical, metallurgy and power industry.

Mr. Yuanming Cai was appointed Global Product Manager Monitoring & Diagnostics

On 21st May 2008, Mr. Yuanming Cai, ALSTOM Strongwish Managing Director, was appointed Global Product Manager Monitoring & Diagnostics for the Plant and Product Group by ALSTOM Power Service.  Mr. Yuanming Cai will be responsible to establish a product and business strategy, which fully utilises all potential synergies to develop and grow the service business in this field in addition to his operational role.

Mr. Yuanming Cai holds a degree in factory automation and a master’s degree in artificial intelligence. He also has an Executive MBA from international business school CEIBS. He is the founder and Managing Director of Strongwish. Strongwish was found in 1998 and dedicated to advanced and reliable online condition monitoring and fault diagnostics for modern industry as high-tech enterprise in Shenzhen. Strongwish was acquired by Alstom in 2006. Today, ALSTOM Strongwish is fully dedicated to the Power Service Monitoring & Diagnostic Business.

ALSTOM Power Service has decided to intensify and realign its activities in the field of Monitoring & Diagnostic Business. This appointment aims at fully leveraging Alstom’s current product platforms from Strongwish and the AMODIS groups.

Alstom impresses Malaysia’s largest utility with Clean Power technology

Alstom in Malaysia participated in the TNB Technical Conference 2008 in Kuala Lumpur which ran from 5-6 May 2008. An exhibition was held in conjunction with the conference by the Malaysian national utility, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).  Alstom, who participated in the event, platformed its technologies in clean power such as Hydro Power capabilities as clean renewable energy and at the same time reinforcing the theme of the event, ‘Technical Excellence – Going Global’. In total the event brought together over 300 TNB delegates from all over Malaysia including TNB’s Board of Director’s and senior management.

Also featured at the exhibition were Power Service’s environmental services such as EPIC III (Advanced Electrostatic Precipitator Integrated Controller) and SIR 4 (Switched Integrated Rectifier).   

The highlight of the exhibit was the Strongwish S8000 Plus with a live-data demonstration from the Manjung power plant Unit 1. The TNB owned Manjung coal-fired power plant was built on a turnkey basis by Alstom. The S8000 Plus is a rotating machinery on-line vibration monitoring and diagnostic system, which is currently installed in Manjung as Alstom’s first reference in Malaysia.

ALSTOM Strongwish successfully passed annual inspection of quality certification

On 8th May, ALSTOM Strongwish (ASW) was monitored and inspected by LRQA and successfully passed it with Zero Defect. During the annual inspection, LRQA highly appreciated ASW’s quality system construction and implement situation. It considered that ASW obtains high maturity quality system and stable system operation

ASW win the order of China Sinopec control system valued Euro531,000.

ALSTOM Strongwish (ASW) has recently won the order of control system of new oil refinery and petro-chemical project from SINOPEC ENGINEERING INCORPORATION. The total value of this order is

Euro 531,000. Located in the city of Yan'an( Shanxi Province), the new project contains control system of three production equipment and an emergency shutdown system. The successful bidding fully exemplified the ASW hardened reputation in Sinopec.

More encouraging news is that further orders will be awarded to ASW by bidding-free channel from Sinopec.

Before joined ALSTOM, ASW has launched system integration of control system and providing multidimensional monitoring and control solution of fleet for a few years. Up to now, ASW has supplied approximately 100 control systems at various industries ranging from petro-chemical, metallurgy to air division industry.

First S8000 platform in operation

The first S8000 plant monitoring and diagnostic platform was put into operation in GUOHUA ZHUNGGER POWER (Inner Mongolia) in April, 2008. This platform features multiple signal access including vibration of 4*330MW steam turbine, auxiliary fleet vibration and a RFM module. 

S8000 plant-level platform was released by ALSTOM Strongwish (ASW) in Dec, 2007.This newly updated platform target at providing a multidimensional monitoring system for power fleet, auxiliary pump, generator, boiler and specific function module in the field of coal-fired power, wind power, petro-chemical and metallurgy industry.
